Weigh in on “Twitter Noise”

Posted under A Geek Dad's Life, Blog Posts

I installed “Twitter Tools” onto my WordPress installation last week so that it would automatically post my tweets each day.  I have neglected this blog for a while, and I was looking for a shortcut.  I was lazy.

Looking back, maybe its OK to neglect this blog.  Maybe it is OK to write a “real blog post” only when I actually have something on my mind that motivates me enough to slave over the keyboard in WordPress.

Twitter is the ‘pure cane sugar’ of the blogging world, and tweets might belong only on Twitter.  (If you really wanted to read my random interstitial thoughts, you would probably be ‘following’ me on Twitter.)

If you find these daily tweet summaries annoying, vapid, or without worth, let me know.  I will gladly turn them off.  Personally, I enjoy the daily recap.  I also understand if you dislike the added noise, as if there was no escape from that darn twitter cruft.

I welcome your thoughts.

  1. Michael C. Neel Said,

I did the same thing with my blog, though I rolled my own aggregation. I guessing you got the same “my eyes are bleeding!” response to a single daily post, recapping twitter. I think it’s a bit of an over reaction, but I can see the case against so in the end I kept the feature, but moved it to my comment feed and off of the main feed.

  2. Damian Hickey Said,

Yep, seperate feed to the main feed would be fine. Tweets != blog posts. :)

  3. Scott Fletcher Said,

Bear with a few more days of tweets in the main feed. I’ll look for a WordPress tool that lets me put them in a separate feed (without ‘rolling my own’). If I can’t find one, I’ll turn it off and wait for a solution to fall into my lap. Thanks for your comments!

Any suggestions on a plugin/tool that creates a separate feed? Jeez, I sound like a noob that doesn’t want to work for the knowledge! :)
